Securing Tomorrow: Strengthening Public Health Through Science, Innovation, and Sustainable Interventions in The Gambia
Organized by the Association of Public and Environmental Health Officers of The Gambia (APEHOG) in scientific partnership with the Ministry of Health, WHO, UNICEF and Medical Research Council Unit The Gambia at LSHTM (MRC The Gambia). It aims to convenes 300+ delegates at the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara International Conference Centre (SDKJ-ICC) to bridge research and national health policy across six pivotal sub-themes.
1. Climate Change & Environmental Health
Building climate-resilient health systems, environmental surveillance, and proactive emergency responses to flooding and extreme heat shocks in The Gambia.
2. One Health & Antimicrobial Resistance
Cross-sectoral surveillance integrating human, veterinary, and environmental health data to combat emerging AMR threats and zoonotic diseases.
3. Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH)
Eliminating rural/urban water quality disparities, infection prevention in healthcare facilities, and sustainable community sanitation infrastructure.
4. Data-Driven Health Governance
Accelerating digital health records, pathogen genomics, GIS mapping, and transitioning from passive reporting to strategic data utilization.
5. Non-Communicable Diseases & Nutrition
Targeting the surging burden of cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and the double burden of malnutrition through preventive clinical and community protocols.
6. Maternal & Child Health
Accelerating evidence-based interventions to reduce maternal mortality (289–450/100k) and under-5 mortality, and strengthening routine immunization.
